SPRING CLEANING 101

Let’s Get This Straight

Spring is underway, and we love helping clients clean out their houses to prepare for summer. In this month's edition, we are giving a rundown of how to spring clean the orderly way.

The Kitchen
It is the most highly trafficked space in your home and needs the most love. Start with expired pantry and fridge items and wipe down surfaces as you go. When cleaning out cabinets and drawers, ask yourself- when is the last time I used this juicer? Do I really need three sets of silverware? Does my child still drink out of a bottle or can I store until the next baby comes?

The Bathroom
Start with products that have expiration dates to make your decision-making process easier when deciding what to keep and toss. Items being used on a daily basis should be easily accessible, and backstock items should be stored under the sink or in a bathroom or linen closet. Be sure to wipe drawers and shelves out as you go.

The Closet
If you're like me, you may have "seasonal" closets and switch out your clothes twice a year (I only recommend doing this if your main closet isn't big enough to hold everything). If your closet can hold all clothing year-round, make time to shuffle currently-worn items to more accessible shelves and hanging space. In either case, take this opportunity to evaluate what you did and didn't wear last season and either donate, consign or toss.

The Playroom & Kids' Rooms
If you have kids, this one is for you. Take inventory of your child's belongings and decide what they've outgrown, whether it be clothing and/or toys. If your children are in school, spring is a great time to tackle this project before they are home for the summer.
Tip: Do not clean out toys while they are around. You will thank me later.
